Would You Rather: Run With a Dog or Run with a Kid?
When we asked the “Would You Rather Wednesday” question a few months back, whether you’d rather run with a dog or a kid, the responses poured in — and the conversation was exactly what we love most about the Good Day for a Run community: honest, funny, heartfelt, and very real.
🐕 Running with a Dog: This one had the most votes.
A large number of runners leaned toward running with their dogs, often citing:
- Consistency and quiet companionship
- Dogs that “lead the way” without complaints
- Nonstop energy that keeps runners moving
That said, many comments humorously acknowledged the reality: frequent stops to sniff, pee, or chase squirrels are just part of the experience.
🧒 Running with Kids: Slower Miles and shorter distances, but more meaningful.
While dogs may have won the popularity vote, running with kids brought out some of the most heartfelt responses. Parents shared stories of:
- Running races together as a family
- Kids pushing themselves to keep up or compete
- Shared experiences that turn a race into lasting memories
Even when kids complained, needed breaks, or slowed the pace, many runners said the connection and encouragement made every step worth it.
😂 The Honest Take: It Depends
Several comments summed it up by saying… “It depends”.
Age, energy level, and expectations made a difference, and sometimes the answer changes day to day. One response jokingly replied that they run with their dog for peace and quiet… and run away from kids for a mental break.
